Let me tell you how the musical greatness of Sub Heroic all came to be what it is today. In the early fall of 2002, Daivd Braga and his friend Brian were messing around on the guitar and drums in the basement. They "jammed" for an hour or two before they decided that they should try to put together a song. But no great band goes without a bassist, so we called down Patrick Spoth from up the hill to play bass. We messed around for a while and decided they should cover a song. Since we weren't very good, we started off with something easy, but cool. It was NOFX's opus "Bob". After playing the song a few times, they realized they lacked the services of a lead singer and second guitarist. Later that month, David went paintballing with his friends, Ryan G. and Ryan K. They stated talking about music and before you know it they were part of the band. Ryan G. was going to sing, and the other Ryan was going to play guitar. Now all we needed was a name, so in our complete boredom we picked : "The Pink Giraffes" (glad that didn't stick) After a few practices, Ryan K. decided not to play second guitar, but move onto bigger and better things as the bands official accomplice, "The Guy". Ryan G. stayed on vocals and we played our first and last show with him on Halloween 2002. we covered Bob and played our first ever song: "Please Let Me Go". We thought it went well, but after watching it on tape yesterday we were surprised the people didn't riot and kill us. We practiced a few more times, but we realized that having Ryan on vocals wasn't a very good fit. He left the band on New Years eve and we became a three piece again. In the time after that, we wrote new, better songs directed at the American society and what it feels like to be depressed. Some of these songs included: "American Image", "Loving It" and the only song form that era that is still played, "All Alone". We tested out the new stuff on St. Patricks Day 2003. We didn't play super well, but we knew we were headed in the right direction, and had found our niche in music. We wrote more and more songs, keeping our new ones and losing the old ones. In that time we wrote songs that like, "Would It Be So Bad?", a song about being an outcast by choice, "The Choice", a song about the evil of abortion, and "Somebody Like Me", a song about hating the way people are. By the time summer had hit Lake Ridge we thought we were ready to record a demo cd. We were going to put five songs on it, and we had most of the money we needed to buy the studio time. As we got ready to record, it became apparent that Brian wasn't happy with the band and wasn't ready to commit to it. We parted ways with him that July. He now resides with Ryan G in the band "The Morning After" We still wanted to record though, but that would be really hard without a drummer. We thought it over and began our quest for a percussionist. The quest ended 24 hours later when we joined forces with drummer Daryl Palumbo (not from Glassjaw). We worked on our songs, threw out some and wrote some new ones. We played a show at a local Octoberfest Party. we didn't think we did very good, but the people liked it so we must have done ok. We recorded our first cd, The Hobo Revolution, on December 5th, 2003. It is a day that will go down in musical history. We then recruited the last thing we needed, a lead singer. We tried out some different people, but the person who fit best was Ian Woods. We are now in the process of writing songs and playing local shows in preparation for our next cd, whenever that is. The band had a sorta falling out with singer Ian Woods, but after about 3 weeks or so, he joined back up because of the lack of entertainment around Woodbridge. Sub Heroic also picked up David Smith as a first class wailer on the geetar. So that's it. Pretty amazing huh? Now you know all about the greatest band ever, Sub Heroic, or do you? |
